Our pick
Levi: 2-Hour Snowmobile Safari to the Levi Nature, Wild Nordic
Wild Nordic runs its forest safari in small groups of no more than 12 people. A transfer collects you from your hotel and brings you back, and at the start you are kitted out with a thermal overall and boots. A safety briefing and driving instructions come before the ride, and the kit also includes gloves and wool socks with a balaclava and a helmet.
Then you follow the guide into Levi's arctic forest on maintained tracks, stopping often for photos. Two adults share each sled and can swap drivers along the way, or one of you simply rides. Halfway round, the guide pours hot berry juice, a Lapland favorite. The whole outing takes two to three hours.

How the ride runs, step by step
The route depends on the snow and the group. This is the outline the listing gives:
Before you set off
- Pickup at your hotel, or meet at the Levi Tourist Office
- Thermal overall, boots, gloves, balaclava, helmet handed out
- Driving instructions and a safety briefing beside the sleds
In the forest
- The guide leads the line along maintained tracks through the trees
- Photo stops on the way, hot berry juice from the guide, a chance to swap drivers
- Back to the start, then the transfer to your hotel
What the price covers
Most of what you need is in the price. What it leaves out is a sled of your own and the small print about damage.

Between us, before you go
A word from one cold-weather amateur to another. Pack the license card itself, because Finnish rules refuse a copy and also a photo or digital license, and there is no refund if you can only ride. Solo travelers and odd-numbered groups may end up sharing a sled with someone they have just met.
Wool under the overall makes all the difference. Our guide to dressing for the ride covers the rest.
Why it beats the bigger safaris
With twelve riders the line of sleds stays short, the guide can see everyone and the photo stops do not turn into a queue. Some Levi safaris take up to 30 or 50 people. The pickup also spares you a cold walk to the meeting point in the dark. Your first ride, step by step explains what to expect.
Who we would not send on it
Anyone who wants a long day out, who will get more from Safartica's five hours on a frozen lake. Riders set on the northern lights, who should book the evening aurora ride. And families with children of three or under, whom the listing does not take.
Book it if
You want a first taste of snowmobiling that is long enough to settle in and short enough to stay warm. You like a small group and a ride from your hotel. It suits couples and friends as well as families with children aged four and up.
Skip it if
- Short on time? Try the one-hour taster, from ~$110
- Want a café stop? Ride Tokka's loop round Levi Fell
- After the aurora? Go with the evening northern lights ride
- Bringing small children? Read snowmobiling with children first

The safari is on GetYourGuide and on Viator. GetYourGuide shows more reviews, Viator a slightly higher score from fewer riders; the ride itself is the same.
